Data published as part of the scholarly record

The publication of a scientific article requires certain information relating to authorship and academic provenance to be made publicly available.

Once an article has been published, authors’ names, institutional affiliations, academic identifiers — including ORCID where applicable — bibliographic information and other metadata necessary for the identification, attribution, retrieval, preservation, interoperability, dissemination and indexing of the publication may be made publicly available.

These data form part of the scholarly record and may be distributed, harvested or exchanged with indexing and abstracting services, repositories, libraries, academic discovery services, persistent identifier systems and other scholarly information infrastructures, in accordance with the journal’s open access, interoperability and preservation policies.

Access to and processing of information by third parties

Information may be processed by or communicated to third parties only where necessary for the operation of the platform, the provision of services related to the editorial process, the preservation and dissemination of scholarly output, interoperability with academic information infrastructures, compliance with institutional or legal obligations, or where appropriate authorisation or another lawful basis exists.

Where third parties are involved in processing information as part of technological, institutional or editorial services, such processing must be carried out in accordance with the applicable institutional and legal provisions governing personal data protection.

Protection of personal data

The journal will seek to implement appropriate administrative and technological measures to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration, disclosure or use.

Requests concerning access to, knowledge of, updating, correction or processing of personal data will be handled in accordance with the procedures and institutional channels established by the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia and with the obligations associated with the integrity, traceability and preservation of the scholarly record.

Privacy and research ethics

The protection of the personal data of users of the editorial platform is distinct from the ethical obligations associated with personal data obtained or used as part of research.

Where an article includes information obtained from human participants, interviews, surveys, personal databases or sensitive information, authors are responsible for ensuring, where applicable, ethical approval, informed consent, confidentiality, anonymisation or pseudonymisation, and any other measures necessary to protect participants’ rights and privacy.

These requirements are further established in the journal’s Policy on Experimentation and Research Ethics and must, where applicable, be reflected in the ethics and transparency statements included in the article.
