This paper outlines the three-stage process—exploratory phase, psycho-pedagogical evaluation phase, and fieldwork—that was followed to analyze the relationship and influence of parents' educational level in a group of 29 primary school students (approximately 10% of the school's student population) in the city of Morelia, Michoacán, aged between 9 and 12 years old, who are candidates for the high intellectual abilities (HIA) profile. They were used in the early stages to form the sample, consult with group teachers, and model aspects of observation for student nomination. During the psycho-pedagogical phase, the latest version of the Terman-Merrill tests and the Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children IV (WISC IV) were administered. Direct consultation with the students' tutors was the vehicle for gathering the information used to analyze the trends in the statistics relevant to the study. It was observed that the level of higher education attained by parents is a condition favorably associated with the presence of HIA in students aged 9 to 12.
