This study examines the difficulties in Reading comprehension among university students in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The objective was to identify teaching practices from the perspective of the teachers themselves and to propose improvements from a metacomprehension approach. An exploratory-descriptive applied research study was conducted, implementing a social intervention design structured according to the logical framework project methodology. The sample consisted of 58 teachers, who responded to a self-report survey entitled “I self- evaluate my strategies for reading comprehension in the classroom”, based on Flavell’s (1979) postulates regarding metacognition: knowledge and regulation of one’s own thinking. The results showed that teachers intentionally plan the reading purpose and select appropriate texts, but revealed weaknesses in the implementation of pre-text strategies, support during reading, and in the detection of student distractions. Based on these findings, an intervention based on metacomprehension strategies focused on planning, monitoring, and evaluation is proposed to promote self-regulated reading processes. This proposal is articulated from a logical framework, with teachers as the protagonists of change. It is hoped that this intervention will strengthen reading comprehension in the university context from a speech therapy perspective that promotes strategic and reflective thinking on the part of the reader.
