En Colombia, el Departamento Administrativo de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación -Colciencias diseña las políticas de ciencia, tecnología e innovación. Desde el año 2000, cuenta con un sistema de indización periódico de las revistas colombianas llamado Sistema Nacional de Indexación y Homologación de Publicaciones Especializadas de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, el cual administra el Índice Bibliográfico Nacional Publindex (Colciencias, 2016).
