The article discusses why decolonization is important in the field of Social Work, highlighting the need to overcome the influences of colonial thinking that have shaped its practices. It highlights the importance of adopting a new approach to situated social work that responds to the specific needs of social, marginal and discriminatory contexts in Latin America and the Caribbean. The article proposes that working closely with local communities can help to build alternatives for self-development, emphasizing that Social Work must evolve in its construction of knowledge, while maintaining an ethical and political commitment. This approach seeks to facilitate an anti-hegemonic, inclusive, reflexive and adaptive social transformation.
