Media and memory in the context of peace dialogues in Colombia
This article corresponds to a case study on the content
analysis carried out on the newscasts Noti5 and
Más Pacífico of the regional public television channel
Telepacífico, in Colombia, regarding the attack perpetrated by the FARC guerrillas on April 25, 2015, in
the municipality of Buenos Aires, department of Cauca,
which left 11 soldiers dead, and which had as a
political consequence the breaking of the unilateral
ceasefire decreed by President Juan Manuel Santos
in the framework of the Peace Process that was being
carried out in those moments between the government
and the insurgent group in Havana, Cuba. From the
theoretical perspective, the analysis is oriented from
the relationship between media and memory that accounts for the way in which memory is created, precisely, around the armed conflict and the peace process on television. Methodologically, the observation window is seven days before and after the event in Buenos Aires, and a corpus of analysis made up of four
transmissions from Noti5 and two from Más Pacífico.
