In Colombia, Law 65 of 1993 stipulates that the purpose of punishment is resocialization, which is why the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec) has developed strategies through alternatives for training, occupation and personal strengthening to facilitate the process of social reintegration. However, little is known about the perception that prisoners have about the processes to which they are linked for their resocialization. In this socio-legal study, a qualitative descriptive methodology was applied to analyze variables and understand subjective experiences or concepts of prisoners in relation to the resocialization initiatives promoted in a penitentiary establishment in the Judicial District of San Gil. In this sense, four specific categories were identified that expose the need to recognize and contrast the institutional, normative and experiential course with respect to the understanding of resocialization in penal dogmatics. It was found that for those deprived of liberty, the concept of resocialization is related to an attitudinal change of volitional nature within the establishment, but projected to life in freedom, relating it to personal commitment, the offer of programs that address problems and favor the development of individual skills/competencies, as well as their support network.
