The education in the 21st century, and, of course, in Colombia is based on competencies, which, according to the Royal Spanish Academy (2006) are defined as the “expertise, aptitude, or suitability to do something or to intervene in a particular case”, in other words, they are the capabilities of human beings with different knowledge, skills, thoughts, character, and values in a comprehensive manner for life in the personal, social, and work environment. Thus, for example, there are communicative, cultural, mathematical, social and civic competencies, among others.

This research seeks to evaluate the digital competencies of high school students of the Pio XII and Santa Maria Goretti Educational Institutions in the municipality of Mocoa, Putumayo; for this purpose, collaboration from the case study institutions will be provided. The European Commission DIGCOMP 2.1 framework is taken as a basis, which provides a detailed description of all the skills needed to be competent in digital environments and describes them in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes and provides the levels within each competence.

The survey was the tool used to achieve the purpose of the research, this tool was carried out with the supervision and evaluation of a group of experts under the validation instrument of criteria and indicators of evaluation of the virtual instrument, adapted from Alarcón et (2017) in which the categories of sufficiency, clarity and coherence to be evaluated by the judges, which I can establish a precise instrument and that has the support of this evaluation, which allowed obtaining the necessary information regarding the digital competencies of the students under study. At the end, a report was obtained with the results of the evaluation of digital competencies in the students of the case study institutions, which will serve as a key indicator for decision making and for the formulation of strategies by the municipal and departmental Secretariats of Education.
