Digital Divide and Academic Performance in Colombia: Access to ICT during the Pandemic
Objective. To analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on academic performance in Colombia, considering access to computers and the internet as key determinants. Method. A cross-sectional combination model was used to compare the academic performance of students with and without simultaneous access to a computer and internet at home during the pandemic period. Results. Students with both technological resources at home scored more than ten points higher on the global scale compared to those lacking them. Moreover, this gap expanded significantly during the pandemic, highlighting the decisive role of home connectivity in the context of remote education. Conclusion. Access to technology proved essential to mitigate learning loss during the pandemic, but at the same time, it deepened preexisting educational inequalities in Colombia.
