Evaluation of Trichoderma spp. strains for the control of Phytophthora sp. on Theobroma cacao L. in southern Colombia
Contextualization: Fungal diseases cause major production losses worldwide. Brown rot of the pod or black pod is the most important cocoa crop disease, which is caused by several species of Phytophthora.
Knowledge gap: There is little research on the management of Phytophthora sp. in cocoa in Colombia. Research advances have been made by AGROSAVIA in other regions of the country, but this type of study is needed for biological control in the area of influence of the project.
Purpose: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Trichoderma viride versus the mixture of Trichoderma asperellum, Trichoderma otroviride, Trichoderma harzianum in the control of Phytophthora sp. on T. cacao in organic cocoa farms in southern Colombia.
Methodology: Evaluation parameters were used for incidence and severity of Phytophthora sp. in T. cacao plantations in organic cocoa farms. Disease treated with: T1: (Trichoderma asperellum, Trichoderma atroviridae, Trichoderma harzianum). Presentation wettable powder PW. T2: (Trichoderma viride) liquid presentation concentrated suspension SC. T3: Control, without any application; in two periods of production of the year.
Results and conclusions: As results it was found that Trichoderma is effective for the control of Phytophthora sp., it was identified that T. viride has greater control than the mixture of Trichodermas.
