Contextualization: Alstroemeria is a flower with great beauty, a wide range of colors, a long vase life, and a growing popularity worldwide.

Knowledge gap: One of the main problems affecting cut flowers' quality in alstroemeria cultivation is the longitudinal cracking of the stem present during the first weeks of growth, which causes a loss of production and commercial quality.

Purpose: The objective was to evaluate different fertilization strategies to control stem cracking in the alstroemeria variety ‘Bali.’

Methodology: Using a completely randomized experimental design, five treatments were evaluated: control with conventional fertilization, treatment with additional irrigation, additional urea, additional foliar fertilization based on Ca, B, K, and P, and the last with additional potassium sulfate, whose application was carried out one week after sowing.

Results and conclusions: The application of potassium sulfate showed the highest values of stem diameter with 0.835 cm. The number of flowers per stem was not significantly affected. However, the application of potassium sulfate showed higher values of 7.38 flowers per stem at 27 weeks after sowing. Additional foliar fertilization with calcium, boron, potassium, and phosphorus was significantly affected by increasing production and reducing the percentage of cracked stems in the Alstroemeria crop. It is essential to distribute the quantities of nitrogen in a greater number of applications during the development of the crop to avoid disproportionate growth of the stem and prevent physiopathies.
