Personal finances of anungraduate student
Personal finance plays a crucial role in the lives of undergraduate university students, who, when faced with financial
independence for the first time, must make economic decisions that will have long-term consequences. Many
students manage limited incomes from scholarships, part-time jobs, or family support, making the proper management
of these resources essential to avoid issues like debt accumulation or an inability to save. However, the lack of formal
financial education among young people contributes to significant financial mistakes, such as the misuse of credit cards,
student loan debt accumulation, and the absence of saving habits. This essay explores the importance of financial literacy
among university students and how the lack of training in this area can negatively affect their future economic
stability. Studies from key authors are analyzed, including Kiyosaki (2017), who emphasizes the need to understand
the difference between assets and liabilities, Mandell (2009), who highlights the low level of financial education among
young adults, and Lusardi & Mitchell (2014), who demonstrate the connection between financial education and personal
economic stability. Through financial planning, proper debt management, and the promotion of a savings culture
from an early age, students can significantly improve their financial well-being.
