The low participation of families in schools shows the need to integrate them using tools for face-to-face or virtual education. When the child has special educational needs, due to the extra time required for specific attention, the teacher’s academic support is not enough, and family support is also required for learning. New
technologies could increase this participation since it is free of schedules and travel distances. An initial study is presented regarding the preferences for using traditional media (paper and pencil), versus technological ones (email, internet, WhatsApp), to fill in questionnaires about family life quality. It works with 124 families,
61 of them from special education schools and 63 from general education schools. The results suggest that families prefer to choose the media according to uses of the educational institution. The participation percentage is significantly higher when digital alternatives are chosen. This result opens new relationships betweenfamilies and schools by having a better learning
experience and more social inclusion.
