Violence(s) in Football and Social Management in Contemporary Argentina: The History of the Non-governmental Organization "Salvemos al Fútbol" (2006-2023)
This article presents a descriptive and analytical account of the history of the non-governmental organization “Salvemos al Fútbol,” established in Argentina in 2006 with the purpose of highlighting and denouncing violence in football. Based on interviews, document analysis, and auto-ethnography, the text explores the landscape of football violence in Argentina over the past 20 years, the meticulous and successful construction of a community association that defies the established-power, and the tensions between denunciation and socio-community engagement within the organization. Throughout the text, various experiences conducted within the framework of the organization are presented and analyzed, ranging from legal complaints to socio-community intervention projects, from the creation of a database of violent incidents to the filming of a documentary, from participation in club election processes to the conceptual discussion about racism in Argentine football. The article discusses the fluctuations, successes, contradictions, and challenges faced by a non-profit civil association working on a controversial issue like violence in contemporary democratic Argentina.
