This study is a reflection on the conflicts resulting from predatory tourism in Acapulco, Mexico, specifically the Bay of Puerto Marqués, an area with a mangrove ecosystem, coastal lagoon, and native population, which due to the invasion of the tourist industry is at risk, both violence and disasters. Our interest is to make visible the local territorial processes that the local population has faced and recognize their importance in recovering ecosystems degraded by capital and the indifference of the State. Biocultural memory is an alternative to the socio-environmental catastrophe that is being experienced in this territory. Our study is based on critical geography and social and alternative disaster studies, as well as a qualitative methodology that identifies territorial transformations and rescues some testimonies and experiences of those affected at different historical moments, both in disasters mediated by cyclones and during the COVID-19 pandemic, from which we make a comparison to find points of contrast and glimpse alternatives.
