The professional practice course in the Industrial Engineering program of the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia UNAD Colombia is constituted as an exercise where the student, through a work plan, identifies unmet or partially met needs and proposes relevant solutions based on methods and tools of the discipline. These functions and products are supported by the actors of the process where an essential figure is the supervisor of the company who accompanies from the company and verifies that the deliverables, tasks and functions comply with the expected results. The objective of this work was to know the perception of the companies participating in the exercise during 2020 despite the COVID-19 emergency. It is approached under a mixed descriptive and exploratory methodology structured in surveys to practice supervisors and bibliographic review of articles and course reports. The results allow locating areas with greater demand for industrial engineers, competencies and soft skills addressed in the development of the professional practice course, as well as the level of compliance perceived by the practice supervisors against the established commitments.
