In Colombia, since the Political Constitution of 1991, political openness and access to greater spaces for participation to traditionally excluded sectors has been promoted, however, it cannot be ignored that persist the disenchantment, dissatisfaction and distrust of citizens in the matters related to politics, the State and Democracy. The purpose of this research is to understand the imaginary of democracy in students of the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia - UNAD, in order to obtain inputs for decision-making, which, pedagogically, contribute to citizen education for peace. The research has a qualitative approach with an interpretive perspective. It was developed within the framework of the collaborative forum of a virtual course. The population is made up of 340 students, assigned to the research professors and authors of this work. Through convenience sampling, 100 students are selected, randomly organized into 20 groups, each group became a focus group. Among the main findings, the university students report in their speeches a clear approach to the universal reference of contemporary democracy; for students, democracy is limited to suffrage.
