Evaluation of productive and reproductive parameters of cattle crossbred with criollo caqueteño, in a dual-purpose system, at the Vila Mery farm in the municipality of Morelia – Caquetá
Contextualization: The present research work exposes the evaluation of productive and reproductive bovine parameters of crosses with Criollo Caqueteño, in a dual-purpose system, in the Villa Mery farm in the municipality of Morelia - Caquetá, through the retrospective collection of productive and reproductive data in the farm, from the years 2018 to 2022 and the collection of new data from the beginning of the research and during the following 12 months to obtain indicators and their analysis. Finally, compare the productive parameters of the purebred Caqueteño Criollo breed with racial crosses.
Knowledge gap: The Criollo Caqueteño breed is about to disappear from the herds of the department of Caquetá, since it is estimated that there are a little less than 300 specimens. It is undeniable that cattle breeders are still unaware of the qualities of adaptation, resistance, good meat conditions even with low food supply, and of course the high hardiness in the adverse conditions of the Amazon region. How do the genetics of Caqueteño Criollo cattle affect the improvement of productive and reproductive parameters when crossed with other breeds in tropical rainforest conditions in the department of Caquetá?
Purpose: To evaluate productive and reproductive parameters of crossbred cattle with the Criollo Caqueteño breed, in a dual-purpose system, in the Villa Mery farm in the municipality of Morelia - Caquetá.
Methodology: The present study was carried out on the Villa Mery farm in the municipality of Morelia - Caquetá, through the retrospective collection of productive and reproductive data in the farm, from 2018 to 2022 and the collection of new data from the beginning of the research and during the following 12 months to obtain indicators and their analysis. The methodology is given under a systemic approach, through the analysis of the subsystems (Population, Reproduction, and Production), in that sense, an approach that allows a comparative analysis per year and a lot is proposed, allowing the conclusions to improve the decision making of the owners of the Villa Mery farm regarding the vision of this genetic resource.
Results and conclusions: The Pure Caqueteño Criollo Caqueteño cattle lot is an important genetic resource that can be used as leverage in crossbreeding with zebu and taurine breeds, offering the opportunity to improve technical indicators, both productive and reproductive in the Caqueteño region.
