In the scenario of cognitive capitalism, proposed by Fumagalli (2010), knowledge and cognition are not only the foundations, but also the drivers of productive transformation and value creation. This paradigm, which revolutionizes the foundations of historical labor structures, generates a series of intricate challenges for regions with marked idiosyncrasies, such as Latin America and, in particular, Colombia. These challenges are intensified by the socioeconomic and cultural complexities that characterize these regions. In the midst of this framework, Emotional Intelligence (EI), as enunciated by Salovey and Mayer (1990), stands out not only for its relevance, but also for its transformative potential in the workplace. However, there is a latent concern: under the influence of cognitive capitalism, EI could be susceptible to commodification, deviating from its genuine essence. This research, through a meticulous qualitative approach, contrasts entrenched work paradigms, such as Taylorism-Fordism, with the contemporary vision of cognitive capitalism. In this comparative, the work emphasizes the imperative need to revitalize and recontextualize EI, guaranteeing its genuine applicability, and underlining its cardinal importance in the labor fabric of contemporary Latin America and, particularly, in the Colombian context.
