Objective: To analyze the relevance of conducting in-person practical activities within virtual education programs and to explore students’ perceptions of this institutional requirement. Method: A qualitative approach with a digital ethnographic orientation was applied to examine institutional guidelines regarding practical activities and students’ perspectives on viable alternatives for their implementation. Results: Students reported challenges related to work responsibilities and travel that limited their ability to participate in face-to-face sessions, although they suggested various strategies to meet institutional demands. However, these proposed alternatives may lead to variations in the intended learning goals and interaction processes. Conclusion: It is essential to assess the educational implications of modifying practical activities, particularly when students propose completing them without teacher supervision or in non-traditional learning environments.
