This article presents the results of an investigation that seeks to determine variables and conditions that influence a university student's propensity to commit academic plagiarism. The study was based on the results obtained from an anonymous survey and several regression models were developed to identify the variables associated with the propensity to plagiarize. As conclusions of the models it is highlighted that there is a lower disposition to academic plagiarism if the student is female -although it was identified, through goodness of-fit tests, that in most types of academic plagiarism that occur in the classroom the gender of the student is independent of the type of cheating-, and that an inverse relationship is established between the fear of failure and the punishment that would be obtained if caught as determinants in the propensity to plagiarism, as well as other conclusions and proposals in further studies.
