Teacher training and Quality of education
Objective: This document recognizes that education and the educational system constitute one of the main instruments of change that society has. It also points out the importance that the teaching staff plays for education and training at the different levels and stages of the educational system as a mediator of the teaching and learning processes. Methodology: The documentary analysis carried out on 19 documents (and 455 abstracts), from the hermeneutic perspective, indicates that for three decades, issues related to the characteristics and conditions of the teaching profession have become a permanent object of attention in research about education. Results: This inquiry exercise has tracked educational reforms in some Latin American countries that have been carried out to reform the teaching career with the purpose of improving the quality of national and international educational systems. Conclusions: This interest has made it possible to locate initial teacher training and continuous professional development as the central elements of educational quality, on which studies, diagnoses, programs, and different interventions have been projected at the level of national and international institutional policies.
