Contextualization: Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria are important in agricultural soils for the transformation of insoluble phosphorus into forms that can be assimilated by plants, improving fertility, fertilizer use efficiency and the sustainability of production systems. Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for plant growth; however, in many agricultural soils it is found in poorly available forms, which limits its uptake in economically important crops such as African palm (Elaeis guineensis).

Knowledge gap: In the department of Cesar, where this crop has high economic relevance, there is little information on the diversity and functional potential of BSF present in the rhizosphere, which restricts the development of biofertilizers adapted to local conditions.

Objective: To isolate, identify and characterize phosphate-solubilizing bacteria in soils cultivated with African palm in Cesar, evaluating their capacity to produce organic acids. Methodology: Thirty rhizospheric soil samples were collected from five commercial plantations. Bacteria were isolated on selective medium with insoluble phosphate and their solubilization rate was evaluated. Identification was performed by amplification of the 16S rRNA gene and the organic acid profile was determined by high performance liquid chromatography.

Results and conclusions: Nine strains with high solubilizing capacity were isolated, identifying Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus subtilis, Enterobacter cloacae and Burkholderia cepacia, the latter not previously reported in Cesar. The strains produced gluconic, citric and oxalic acid, showing their potential for the development of regional biofertilizers.
