Mapping of scientific knowledge in the guava (Psidium guajava L.) Production chain in Colombia
Contextualization: The guava is a fruit of great commer cial importance in more than sixty countries. It is consumed fresh or processed and is used in agribusiness for various derivatives of the fruit, seeds, and leaves. World production in 2020 was 2,075,000 tons, with Pakistan being the main producer with 22% share, Brazil 17%, India 16%, Mexico 15%, and Colombia 8%. It is a product of interest within the World Food Program, Global Plan of Action for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, Agenda 2030, and an alternative resource to address the food crisis and unemployment in developing countries. Colombia has organized its production chain and identified research, development, and innovation (R&D&i) needs, which can be related by links and serve as a guide for analysis, where knowledge is a vital resource for development and social transformation.
Knowledge gap: despite the recognition of benefits worldwide, and despite having identified R&D&I demands in Colombia, scientific production is not consolidated, so the state of progress is unknown.
Purpose: Determine the state of knowledge on the guava production chain in Colombia, in relation to the R&D&i needs set forth in the Strategic Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation, and contributions to problems of interest.
Methodology: To map the knowledge of the guava production chain, the PRISMA guide was implemented with searches in the databases Web Of Science, Scopus, Science-Direct, PubMed and Google Scholar, using the keywords “guava”, “guajava”, “Psidiumguajava L”, “guava”, “Colombia”; for the period 2010 to 2022.
Results and conclusions: 138 publications met the selection criteria. The greatest scientific productivity was focused on the production and transformation links, contributing in some way to R&D&i needs. The gaps correspond to topics of innovation, circular economy, contribution to the SDGs, quality, safety, business development, socioeconomic studies, marketing, and exports.
