Tourism offer in Mexico. Case of the Archaeological Site of Comalcalco, Tabasco
Mexico has 195 archaeological sites distributed across 30 states of the Republic, all safeguarded by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). Among them, the archaeological site of Comalcalco, located in Tabasco in southeastern Mexico, stands out for its monumental constructions, including temples, pyramids, palaces, and observatories. The objective of this research is to analyze the Comalcalco ruins as part of Mexico’s national tourism offer. To achieve this, a methodology was applied that combined a descriptive documentary analysis with a case study. The results show that the tourism offer and promotion of the Maya site are limited, restricting its capacity to attract both national and international visitors. Therefore, the study proposes strategies to strengthen publicity and increase visitor inflows, as well as to promote the active participation of the local community in national and international events—such as fairs and exhibitions—in order to consolidate its positioning within the tourism market.
