La leishmaniasis es un conjunto de enfermedades muy distintas entre sí, producida por distintas especies de parásitos protozoarios del genero Leishmania, transmitida por insectos dípteros de los géneros Phlebotomus, vectores en el Viejo Mundo y Lutzomyia, vectores en el Nuevo Mundo. En
algunas regiones del país se le conoce como mantablanca, palomilla, pringador o mosco-marrano (1,2).
