This research evaluates the microbiological quality of water at the Escuela Normal Superior de Popayán [ENSP], involving secondary school students in scientific inquiry processes through project-based learning. The study used a mixed approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods in three phases: a survey of students, microbiological analysis of water samples, and dissemination of results through radio programs. The results showed that 64% of students perceive microbiological risk and only 40% trust the quality of the water. Laboratory analysis confirmed these perceptions by detecting significantly elevated total coliforms at all sampling points, far exceeding the permissible limits established by Colombian regulation 2115 of 2007. The research highlights the need to improve integrated water management through regular monitoring, infrastructure optimization, and ongoing environmental education campaigns. Project-based learning was consolidated as an effective methodology for developing scientific and environmental literacy.
