The Philosophy for Children program, started by Matthew Lipman three decades ago, is becoming more and more consolidated as a viable alternative to promote critical thinking and socio-emotional skills that are needed in today's knowledge societies. Although it was a project that emerged within philosophical boundaries, today it is the heritage of different social sciences and education, in such a way that we are witnessing an interdisciplinary expansion of the program and, consequently, an enrichment of its objectives. and scope. Precisely this article seeks to contextualize all those people, practicing teachers and graduates in training, who want to know in more detail the FpN program and Lipman’s dream of laying the foundations for a new education. In this sense, the text explicitly addresses non-philosophers, as it recognizes the universal and transversal nature of the program, whose essence lies in the cultivation of critical thinking and the consolidation of a pedagogy for freedom.
