This paper aims to address, through the case study of the Liberal Party, an approach to the different challenges faced by women who aspire to positions of popular election, such as the Neiva City Council. These obstacles, shaped by political and social dimensions, are classified as challenges of entry, competition, and permanence. The analysis covers three electoral periods between 2012 and 2023, taking as a point of reference the enactment of Law 1475 of 2011, also known as the Gender Equality Law. It is concluded that, although laws are a normative mechanism to allow equal access to political contest, real transformations must occur in the social and cultural spheres.
