The biogas has established itself as a fundamental renewable source in the progress towards a more sustainable energy system. This analysis focuses on the applicability of biogas on a small and medium scale, highlighting its potential to generate clean energy in rural and semi-urban areas. The adopted methodology includes a detailed review of key concepts, comparison of costs and technologies, as well as an evaluation of the social, economic and environmental impact associated with the use of biogas. Likewise, the role of electronic engineering in improving these systems is highlighted, focusing on automation and continuous monitoring to optimize their operation. Finally, the cultural and political challenges for the implementation of biogas on a small and medium scale are discussed, as well as the opportunities presented by its adoption as a valuable tool for the global energy transition, with a view to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and minimizing the carbon emissions.
