Electro-Hydraulic Strategies for Water Security in Ibague, Colombia: An Innovative Approach to Condominium Living
This study examines the feasibility and impact of a low-altitude, automatic water storage and supply system for condominiums in the northern zone of Ibague, Tolima. In response to recurrent water supply interruptions by the local utility company IBAL, and in compliance with Law 675 of 2001, which restricts façade alterations, there emerges a need for a solution that is not only functional but also adheres to the aesthetic and legal standards of modern urban development. The proposed system centers on an electro-hydraulic design tailored to the limited space and height availability, which precludes the installation of conventional external tanks.
The applied methodology is quantitative and descriptive, with an experimental approach that incorporates correlational archeology and adheres to the PMI standards. The initial research phase includes a needs assessment through surveys, establishing a foundation for software-assisted design and the construction of a full-scale prototype. Methodological steps span from conceptualization and design to implementation and field testing, with an adjustment phase to ensure the functionality and efficiency of the prototype.
Although specific metrics for the expected results phase are not yet defined, the project anticipates the achievement of a system that maximizes water storage capacity, optimizes residential space usage, and operates with high energy efficiency. The system is expected not only to meet water needs during service interruptions but also to offer a sustainable and cost-effective long-term solution.
The relevance of the project extends beyond the local scope, proposing a methodology and design that can be adapted to globally situated cities facing similar challenges. With a robust theoretical framework and a practical focus, this study has the potential to make a significant contribution to the field of hydraulic engineering and urban water resource management.
