In a highly competitive, changing, and saturated environment, retailers in the country face the challenge of gaining advantages and taking measures to prevent losses or even fight against extinction. This research aims to demonstrate how data science capabilities and new data analysis tools contribute to informed decision-making, improved efficiency, and profitability of retail businesses by leveraging the data generated in their daily operations. This research is built upon a systematic literature review that examines the methodological, technical, and technological elements that define data science. The advantages and possibilities that the application of data science can offer to the retail sector in terms of strategic decision-making are discussed, and possible projections are considered, evaluating the potential impact of data science on the future of the retail sector. The results of this research provide valuable information about the retail sector and the difficulties it faces in decision-making. Furthermore, current trends in the application of data science for decision-making in various areas, including the retail sector, are explored, analyzing the tactics, technologies, and outcomes of these applications. Finally, the advantages, opportunities, and benefits that arise from the application of data science in decision-making in the retail sector are identified and highlighted.
