Food losses in agri-food production in Colombia: a brief background
The agri-food production chain in Colombia faces the challenge of reducing the rate of losses of food for human consumption due to waste. The importance of these losses has a greater impact on agricultural production to obtain raw materials for processing and food consumption. From a triple bottom line perspective, the economic, environmental, and social aspects are important and relevant.
The methodology used for the development of the research was exploratory, with a mixed approach (quantitative-qualitative) for the systematic review of the state of knowledge of relevant information and the 2019 National Agricultural Survey. As a result, it was observed that the most important factors contributing to the generation of food losses are climatic impacts, pests, diseases, and sanitary factors.
