Sagu (Maranta arundinacea), is a plant that is characterized by its cylindrical and tuberous rhizomes from which starch is extracted, however, little has been reported about the benefits that its leaves can provide for animal feed. Therefore, the objective of this research was to determine the presence or absence of secondary metabolites in sago leaves and rhizomes and to characterize the fiber of the leaves in order to determine its nutritional value. A proximal analysis (dry matter (DM), crude protein (PC), ethereal extract (EE), ash, crude fiber (FC) and free nitrogen extract (ELN)) was carried out on sagu leaves and rhizomes. ANKOM technology to determine Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Acid Detergent Lignin (LDA) and Gross Energy (EB). The absence of secondary metabolites in leaves and rhizomes was verified; the leaves had a high PC content of 22.01% and the Vas Soest analysis carried out on the leaves determined an NDF of 57.13%, FDA 32.33% and lignin of 9.20%, which indicates that it is an excellent quality material for animal feed.
