Indoor Positioning Systems for Seniors
With Internet of Things (IoT) and wireless sensor networks (WSN), new possibilities for solving different people's problems have emerged; for example, for the care of the elderly, mainly for those suffering from dementia, where an indoor positioning system (IPS), allows to identify in real time the location of a person, alert about risks and help in the care of the same. The above describes the operation of an IPS, the basic concepts to implement them, some hardware platforms and the proofs of concept performed, in order to determine the accuracy of the IPS and its possible application in the selected population. It is important to mention that although there are many IPSs in development, the novelty of the proposal presented is that it is for the elderly, it defines a care protocol and proposes the adequacy of an IoT device with the control software necessary to care for and monitor older people.
