The world identifies innovation and entrepreneurship as mechanisms to improve both the quality of life of the population and the growth of the economy, but in practice in countries such as Colombia relatively few ventures go beyond the first year and few organizations contemplate among their strategic guidelines to have sustainable innovation structures.

Among the functions of the State is to promote the generation of appropriate scenarios that allow the development of these structures in the productive organizations; for this purpose, entities such as the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia - UNAD (National Open and Distance University) appear, whose main objective is open and distance education in a national and international context based on the sustainable development of the regions, betting missionally on the democratization of an educational model that allows the population access to quality training through the offer of programs that seek inclusive development and the improvement of the framework conditions for innovation, as is the case of the undergraduate degree in Industrial Design in the online modality.

Having said this, the purpose of this article is to make a literature review exercise that reflects the Colombian economic context, highlighting the impact of entrepreneurship on competitiveness, focusing on the concepts of creativity and innovation to reflect on their differences, and then focus on various types of innovation and how they are through industrial design can be modulated with productive organizations and society to help make them more prosperous and sustainable.
