Factors that affect youth unemployment in the District of Santa Marta – Magdalena
Unemployment is a growing concern in the city of Santa Marta, especially for young people between 18 and 28 years old. The following proposal will focus on establishing the factors that affect the problem of youth unemployment in the District of Santa Marta.
Among the elements that affect youth unemployment are the lack of work experience, age, level of education, sex, among others (Castillo & García,2019). The problem of unemployment causes problems of social inequality among young people (De la Rosa, 2011). According to the United Nations (2023), young people between 18 and 28 years old have difficulties in obtaining fair, dignified and decent employment, regardless of their sex, income level or socioeconomic situation.
The study will use a combined approach of quantitative and qualitative methods for data collection and analysis, in order to examine the problem of youth unemployment in Santa Marta.
It was evident that the factors that most affect unemployment in the youth population are the lack of work experience, inadequate education for the local labor market and the lack of public policies to address youth unemployment and promote the economic and social inclusion of this population.
