The objective of this research was to illustrate about the possibility of the application of variables of participation in the evaluation of rural buildings related projects as a tool for socio-economic development in the forests of the south in the Mata region (PE). The methodology adopted consisted of a literature search in scientific books and on the internet about rural areas, development and / or the analysis constructions projects based on socioeconomic variables. The results showed that nowadays the tools allowing the participation of the stakeholders involved are little-used, in territory construction and rural buildings projects, unlike other agricultural areas such as rural development that already incorporated them. Even so, it is important to include this type of variables in order to develop projects in the framework of local development, the sustainability and the social justice. Therefore, it concluded that the projects of rural buildings should encourage academic reflections on tools that allow reconciling the different interests of the actors, which is the key to the socio-economic viability of projects
