Port environmental management is an issue of high priority for nations, not only because the Sustainable Development Goals warrant it, but also companies and multinationals are aware of this, since they are interested in their merchandise flows passing through non-certified ports, together with the inconveniences that could arise when using this service through seaports, the purpose of this article is to review how the environmental management of seaports in America is carried out, taking into account some guidelines from Europe and multilateral organizations. . It was done through critical and therefore positivist rationalism, extracting a sample of various texts and investigating recognized sources, it is concluded that ports must not only have environmental management or an Environmental Management System and be certified, but also go to cutting edge including more environmental indicators that will minimize its potential harmful effect on port communities.
