Overweight and obesity as risk factors for noncommunicable diseases in Mexico: analysis of health indicators of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) from 2014 to 2022
Introduction. Obesity and overweight have increased dramatically in Mexico over the last 30 years, linked to an increase in the incidence and prevalence of mortality from communicable diseases. Methods. Open data from the PAHO for the last 9 years were analyzed to observe the trend in obesity with respect to mortality related to non-communicable diseases. Results. An increasing trend in obesity was found, especially in women, as well as an increasing trend in phy- sical inactivity in this same population group. Conclusions. Population-based interventions should be carried out to improve the habits of Mexicans and avoid future complications derived from obesity.
