The human microbiome plays a key role in health and disease, and its study has enabled significant advances in precision medicine. A healthy microbiome is characterized by a high diversity of beneficial microorganisms, whereas alterations in its composition may be associated with various pathologies, including cancer and inflammatory diseases.

Research in this field has revealed that the microbiota can not only serve as a biomarker for early diagnosis of diseases, but also influence the response to treatments, particularly cancer therapies. Advanced technologies, such as next-generation sequencing, have facilitated the identification of specific microbial communities and their relationship with different organs and health conditions .

One of the main challenges is to understand the variability of the microbiome between individuals and its impact on inflammation, metabolism and immune response. In this sense, personalized medicine has emerged as an innovative strategy, integrating genetic information and the microbiome to develop more effective therapies tailored to each patient.

The link between the microbiota and oncology is particularly relevant, as certain microorganisms can modulate cancer progression and the efficacy of treatments. The possibility of using the microbiota as a therapeutic tool opens up new perspectives in medical science, positioning it as an essential component in the evolution of precision medicine.
