A short and updated review was conducted that comprehensively addresses the relationship between metabolic syndrome, hepatic steatosis, diabetes, and hypoglycaemia, highlighting their pathophysiology. Liver steatosis is unders­tood as a cause or consequence of the metabolic syndrome that promotes insulin resistance and risk for type 2 diabetes. Similarly, it covers people with diabetes, mainly those treated with insulin or hypoglycaemic drugs.
