Objective. To synthesize scientific evidence on the main determinants of canine oncogenesis, with particular focus on the roles of nutrition, obesity, and environmental exposures. Method. A narrative review of scientific literature was conducted through systematic search and critical analysis of original articles, reviews, and theses available in academic databases including PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Studies published between 2015 and 2024 in English and Spanish were included, applying criteria of relevance, timeliness, and methodological rigor. Results. High-fat diets, refined carbohydrates, and food additives, along with obesity, are associated with chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, both key mechanisms in carcinogenesis. Exposure to pesticides, air pollutants, and ultraviolet radiation increases the risk of neoplasms in genetically predisposed breeds such as Golden Retriever, Boxer, and Bernese Mountain Dog. Conclusions. The interplay among genetic, environmental, and nutritional factors determines cancer susceptibility in dogs. Available evidence supports the need for comprehensive preventive strategies, emphasizing balanced and individualized nutrition, to reduce cancer incidence and improve the quality of life in at-risk canine populations.
